Glossary

Quick definitions for common Covert Cats terms, mechanics, and system language. If the game or the wiki throws a word at you like it expects you to already know it, start here.

A-F

Aggro

The value that helps determine which player an enemy wants to attack. Damage, healing, and certain abilities can all generate aggro.

All Enemies

A target type that affects the enemy side of the battlefield, but still requires one valid enemy target to begin the cast.

Armor

A defensive stat that reduces physical damage only.

Battle Circle

The overworld assist zone around an active fight. Nearby players can sometimes join a battle by entering the circle and using the proper interaction.

Battle Phase

The active part of a fight where enemies and players are still engaged. Once this ends, the fight moves into loot phase.

Combat Group

A target type that affects all allied cats in the current battle, but still requires one valid allied target to start the cast.

Covert Container Mode

The cardboard box overworld survival ability used to reduce random encounter pressure while traveling.

Crit Percent

The stat that determines your chance to land a critical hit or critical heal.

Data Biscuit

A collectible or discoverable item tied to lore, Codex progression, or hidden world information.

Debuff

A negative effect placed on a player or enemy. On the HUD, debuffs are visually separated from buffs for easier recognition.

Disease Resist

Resistance against disease-based damage and effects.

Dodge Percent

The chance to avoid a physical attack entirely.

Execution Deck

The system used to manage learned abilities and equip them to the hotbar.

Flee Combat

A self-only escape ability that attempts to remove the player from battle. It is useful, but not guaranteed.

Focus

A derived stat that increases the strength of your critical damage and critical healing.

Fortitude

A derived defensive stat that reduces how punishing enemy critical hits are when they land on you.

G-L

Global

The broadest main chat feed. It includes general communication, system text, and also shows party, whisper, and zone-wide messages.

Haste

A stat that reduces Recovery time between abilities, down to the game’s lower threshold.

Hotbar

The live ability bar used in normal play and combat. It contains the abilities currently equipped through the Execution Deck.

HP Regen

The stat that improves how much health your cat restores over time.

Hustle

A stat tied to overworld movement speed and escape reliability.

Link Dead

The state a character enters when the player disconnects or leaves improperly. The cat may remain in the world temporarily and can still be at risk.

Loot Phase

The post-battle stage where dropped items can be claimed. Once a fight enters loot phase, new players can no longer join it.

M-R

Meowlight

Short for Cone of Meowlight, the flashlight-style ability used to navigate dark areas.

Memetic Damage

A non-physical damage type that is reduced through Memetic Resist rather than Armor.

Memetic Resist

Resistance against memetic damage and effects.

Mojo

A base trait that improves Energy Regen and contributes to Focus. It is the primary trait of The Tongue.

Patchline

The class progression system where players spend Patchline points to unlock abilities and nodes.

Patchline Point

The resource used to unlock nodes in the Patchline.

Poison Resist

Resistance against poison-based damage and effects.

Primary Trait

The main stat a class scales from most efficiently. Each class has one primary trait.

Recharge

The time delay before a specific ability can be used again.

Recovery

The time delay before any ability can be used again after casting.

S-Z

Self-Only

An ability type that automatically affects the player and does not require self-targeting first.

Stable Node

A Patchline node type that usually represents more direct or conventional class progression.

Stamina

A base trait that increases maximum HP.

Strength

A base trait that improves armor rating and is the primary trait of The Fur.

Summon

A target type that does not require a target and instead places a pet, turret, totem, or similar support object onto the battlefield.

Target Bar

The HUD frame showing the name, level, health, and effects of your current target.

Whispurrs

The private-message chat channel used for direct player-to-player communication.

Willpower

A base trait that increases maximum Energy and contributes to Fortitude. It is the primary trait of The Tail.

Wind-Up

A visible or logged enemy preparation phase before a dangerous ability fires. These windows can often be interrupted.

Zone Chat

The chat channel used for zone-wide communication, often through the /shout command.
